Silsden Park Rangers 8 Emley Moor 50

The season opening game for Silsden Park Rangers was an uphill battle where they were outclassed by a bigger, fitter and well drilled side from Emley Moor.  Silsden started the game well enough having the majority of the early possession, however when ever Emley had the ball they looked threatening and it wasn’t long before they opened their tally.  Silsden were however quick to respond with a penalty from the boot of Andy Bowness.  Emley then went on to take control of the game with three quick tries.  Silsden we not done though and a break from John Williams following a snatch from the scrum by Rick Greenwood near the Silsden posts caught Emley on the back foot.  Full back Steve Dent was in close support and was able to out pace the Emley defence to score Silsden’s only try, Andy Bowness adding the extras to take the score to 8 - 28.

After the interval Silsden had a good spell of play.  Impressive defensive displays from Mark Adams, Neil Jordan, top tackler Eddie Billings and the evergreen Stuart Johnson kept the visitors at bay.  There was also a good showing from new signings Alan Dixon and Neil Garner.  But it was only a matter of time before the Emley attack found the gaps to extend their lead beyond Silsden’s reach.  Despite crushing tackles from Chris Langdale it was not enough the stop Emley running in a further 5 tries to finish the score at 8 – 50.

Silsden will be looking to improve their fortunes next week as they take on Liversedge in Silsden Park , 2.30 kick off.
