Silsden put up a good fight against Kippax but were unable to hold on to an early lead in a game played in atrocious weather conditions. Silsden had much of the possession during the first half and were able to make good inroads into the Kippax defence through forwards Chris Greenwood, Eddie Billing, Mark Adams, David Illiff and Lee Shaw. It was only a matter of time before Silsden found the gap and it was Tony Fella who made the break, bursting through the Kippax line. Andy Bowness successfully added the extras in very windy conditions. Silsden managed to hold on to this lead through great defensive efforts from Shaw, Greenwood, Adams, Antony Smith, Steve Dent and man of the match Jon Gwilliam, however Kippax managed to cross the line in the final play of the half. During the second half Kippax had the upper hand and through the horizontal hail edged in to the lead with a converted try. Silsden were unable to respond and Kippax soon extended their lead with another try. The pressure was kept on Silsden through Kippax making full use of the weather conditions kicking with the wind in their favour. Another to tries for Kippax and a final drop goal wrapped the game up at 6 – 23. Despite the final result Silsden put in a good performance and will be looking to build on this next week at Emley Moor, kick off at 2.00pm. |
